Generational improvements to the Frontline Ambulance

Design-thinking and user insight is continually implemented in a partnership with St John. The Frontline Ambulance design is continually reviewed and improved to meet the ever-developing needs of paramedics in New Zealand. I was an integral part in the designing, costing, and presentation of design improvements.

Bespoke and limited-run solutions

St John operates in a variety of terrain, weather and situations and they also need bespoke solutions. I have designed alternative ambulances, four-wheel drive vehicles, rapid response units and other specialist vehicles to ensure the best in ergonomics, vehicle performance, storage capabilities, patient experience and visibility.

The solutions include; Patient Transfer Vehicles, Rapid Response Vehicles, SERT Utes, Command Units, and more.

St John Rapid Response Santa Fe

St John have a small fleet of rapid response Santa Fe ambulances. The existing solution had a rear storage rack that was heavy, industrious and required holes to be drilled in the base vehicle. The nature of St John’s Fleet placed a strong requirement for no irreversible modification to the base vehicle.I thoroughly re-designed the mounting system to utilise factory mountings, sketched, 3d modelled, and manufactured a finalised prototype for the new storage rack and cargo barrier.

Incident Support Vehicle

Designed to ensure the paramedics of St John can treat mass injuries, quickly and effectively. The Double Cab transports up to 6 paramedics. Once on scene, the vehicle provides extensive storage for the requirements of treatment on a mass scale, featuring roller doors and under floor cupboards on both sides of the vehicle, as well as a tail-lift for heavy equipment. I designed the centre console and in-cab comms storage.
